Vintage Rooms in Many Styles

Rooms are an important place. They're that little hidie-hole that you can escape to when you really need to. That little cozy warm place where you can bunker down and stay for almost forever. Which is why we felt that rooms were one of those things that we just had to talk about, to show there are many ways of making  a Vintage room to fit your style and personality.

For example, Lydia has a serious love for trees. Her room is filled  with green, brown and natural colours, but also with all of her little trinkets that tie it all together. Here are some piccies she took of her room.............

Lydia shares her room with her beloved Wally the Wombat (actually a guinea pig) who has taken up residence there.

Lydia's bed is covered with mixed and matched pillows of all shapes and sizes.

Hanging across the ceiling of her bedroom is a string of doilies, which covers the length of her room, that her mother made.

Taking up a fair bit of space on her bedside table is her bird-boxes which she fills with all her jewellery and special bits and bobs. Dont ever feel like you can have too much 'stuff'. As you can see, it seriously doesn't matter because it just adds more personality to your room!

Perched upon her drawers is her doll house, home to the three bears, that her parents lovingly made for her third birthday. It's always okay to keep things that are special and personal to you, just like Lydia's doll house, in your room. Never feel ashamed to have your own style!

Painted by Lydia's Grandma
Lydia's walls are covered with paintings and posters (mainly of rabbits and tree houses), postcards and a mirror.

Her shelf is adorned by woodland tid-bits she has both collected and bought over the years.
Note: Recycled cylinder box Lydia covered in a paisley fabric

Oh, and yes, if you havn't already guessed, Lydia loves rabbits too!

Matisse's room takes on a completely different sort of style to Lydia's. She has a love for music (plays violin) and  everything that's cute. A little while ago, for Matisse's birthday present, her mum gave her room complete makeover and see how gorgeous it looks...............

As you walk in you will notice instantly what her theme is....
PARIS! If there was any place in the entire world that she could go to it would be paree mon cherie!

Her mum framed an original
poster from the Moulin rouge and hung it above her bed, just to give the room more of a parisian feel.

On her bed she has some gorgeous cushions that are made from old doileys that her mum found in an antique shop in a hidden street of Brisbane.

We just LOVE Art! Hanging pictures on your walls leaves a big statement and tells people what you are about with just a look, rather than spending hours telling them all about yourself!
Having a colour scheme for your room is one of themost important things when you are creating your perfect sanctum. As you probably have already noticed, Matisse's is Red,White,Black and Gold in some places.
Choosing colours YOU like are important, not what others prefer.
Dont feel shy to add some little pieces of colour but just remember that your room should be all about
YOU! YOU! YOU!

Even in the cold of winter it's great to have just a little bit of nature in your bedroom, if it's an indoor plant like Lydia's or just a little pot plant of colour on the windowsill!

I know that you must be thinking, "Gee, how many pictures does she want to take of her room?" but here are just a few more to give a little bit of inspiration!

We hope we got you excited about giving your room a makeover and aren't as afraid of a change as you were!

Make-Me

Every now and then we are going to post a 'Make-Me' for all you creative crafty people yoos! SOooooo...............

Tissue Paper POM-POMS/Flowers

Materials:
  • Tissue Paper (a colour of your choice, we chose white)
  • Scissors
  • String
  • That's it??

Step 1.  Grab your Tissue paper and fold it up, just like you would to make a fan, on one side than turn over and fold from that side.

Step 2. So, now that you have been folding for almost 3 hours (JOKES), you now need to round off the edges. (hint: look at the pictures below)

Step 3. Cut a piece of string and tie it around the middle of the tissue paper fold. (make sure you do a double knot because we tried it without.... fail..)

Step 4. With your string tied, you can now (gently, dont get over excited now!) pull apart the layers of tissue paper, creating a big POM-POM/flower.

Step 5. now you need to..... HAHAHAHAHAHA got ya there is no step 5. yes thats how easy it is! check out our finished product.

Check out our finished product... well actually not the same one that you saw but one that is hanging in Matisse's room. Her mum had the great idea of putting it inside a birdcage that she painted red and hung in her room. You can hang these pretty much anywhere and make any room look instantely gorgeous! (they can also be in any colour you like so as to fit into your style code)
